  2. Roundhay Garden Scene
    • According to 3 sources
Louis Le Prince is credited with creating the world’s first motion picture in the late 1880s. He used a single-lens camera to capture moving images onto paper film. Le Prince’s experiments culminated in a short film known as “Roundhay Garden Scene,” filmed in the garden of his father-in-law’s house in Roundhay, Leeds, England, in 1888.
Louis Le Prince’s Roundhay Garden Scene is the oldest motion picture that we know of, and the oldest surviving movie. With a run-time of just two seconds (2.11 to be precise), it depicts the French artist’s family walking around a garden in Leeds, England, in 1888.
However, experts have largely agreed that Roundhay Garden Scene was probably the first movie in history. Filmed in October 1888 by Louis Le Prince using a single-lens camera he’d invented, Roundhay Garden Scene is just 2.11 seconds long and features four people walking in a circle outside of a home in Leeds, England.
