A panda should have at least two bamboo species where it lives, or it will starve. A scarcity in bamboo threatens the already limited panda population. An adult female panda weighs 200 pounds. Pandas can climb as high as 13,000 feet and are also very good swimmers.

The giant panda ( Ailuropoda melanoleuca; Chinese: 大熊猫; pinyin: dàxióngmāo ), also known as the panda bear (or simply the panda ), is a bear native to South Central China. It is characterised by its bold black-and-white coat and rotund body.

Pandas can easily stand on their hind legs and are commonly observed somersaulting, rolling, and dust-bathing. Although somewhat awkward as climbers, pandas readily ascend trees and, on the basis of their resemblance to bears, are probably capable of swimming.
