  2. Odysseus or Ulysses (Greek Ὀδυσσεύς Odysseus; Latin: Ulixes), was the mythical Greek king of Ithaca and the main hero in Homer 's epic poem, the Odyssey. Odysseus also plays a key role in Homer's Iliad.

Historians have found no hard evidence of an ancient Greek king named Odysseus. While the man may not have existed, scholars believe the Mycenaean kingdom of Ithaca certainly did.

Odysseus, son of Laertes and Anticleia, was a Greek hero and the king of the island of Ithaca. He married the beautiful princess Penelope and had one son by her, Telemachus.

Probably fictional. Although history can't tell us for certain whether there was an actual Greek king of Ithaca named Odysseus, we also don't have reason to believe there wasn't. Certainly the tales told about him in Homer's The Iliad and The Odyssey were purely fiction, but they were also full of real people, places, and events.
