    Paris was founded in the 3rd century B.C. on île de la Cité by a community of Celts. They were a group of tribal fishermen called the Parisii who, pushed by emigration towards the banks of the Seine, made a permanent settlement there and profited from the area’s fertility and temperate climate.
    In the late 3rd century BC, a tribe of Celtic Gauls called the Parisii founded Paris on the land now known as Île de la Cité. After centuries of conflict between the Gauls and Romans, Julius Caesar’s legions seized control of the region in 52 BC.
    Founded in the 3rd century BC, Paris started out as a fishing village, inhabited by a Celtic tribe known as the Parisii. It's widely thought that the first settlement was on the site now known as L'Ile de la Cité. Julius Caesar's legions of Roman soldiers arrived in 52 BC.
