    Ancient Greece was the birthplace of the drama of the Western world. By the 5th century bc dramas were presented at Greek religious festivals twice a year. These grew out of the worship of Dionysus, the god of wine and ecstasy.
    Drama as we know it began in ancient Greece. The first plays were religious affairs, with dancing and music. Then came a chorus, which eventually had a Leader, who was the first actor in the history of drama.
