    “The Iliad“ (Gr: “Iliás“) is an epic poem by the ancient Greek poet Homer, which recounts some of the significant events of the final weeks of the Trojan War and the Greek siege of the city of Troy (which was also known as Ilion, Ilios or Ilium in ancient times).
    The Iliad —like its sequel, the Odyssey —is attributed to the ancient Greek poet Homer. There is some debate as to who Homer really was, and some scholars think these two works were written by more than one person. It is believed that the poems were passed down from generation to generation as part of the Greek oral storytelling tradition.
