  2. Dogger Bank
    • According to 3 sources
Doggerland was named after the Dogger Bank (which in turn was named after 17th-century Dutch fishing boats called doggers),[ 4 ] which formed a highland region that became submerged later than the rest of Doggerland. [ 1 ][ 2 ]
In the 1990s, a professor from the University of Exeter named Bryony Coles coined the name Doggerland after Dogger Bank, a large sandbank in the middle of the North Sea. The word “dogger” refers to a type of medieval Dutch fishing boat specific to the area.
The name comes from Dogger Bank, a shallow area in the North Sea that once made up the northernmost hills of Doggerland. Its Dutch name, Doggerbank, is essentially the same. The area was rich in cod, which was commonly called dogge in Dutch at the time.
