    Is lying morally justifiable?
Lying is generally perceived as unethical behaviour. Depending on the moral theory used, lying in special circumstances (for example, “white” lies or lies that benefit others or avert harm) might be morally justifiable. Other lies, as lying about one’s age in order to get access to age-restricted goods, are most often immoral.
Why are there disagreements about the morality of a lie?
Disagreements about the morality of a lie seem to stem from ambiguity about the degree to which the lie caused harm. Clearly, we don’t perceive all types of lies as being equally bad and immoral, and this variability seems to be tied to the amount of harm the lies cause. Some deception researchers have differentiated between broad classes of lies.
Should we judge the morality of lying?
By wanting to judge the morality of lying, we may have led ourselves into one of the most difficult skeptical lands to traverse. Not only lying may be seen as the outcome of self-deception, perhaps an involuntary outcome. Once we broaden our definition for what a lie may be, we come to see that lies are deep-seated in our society.
Is it morally acceptable to tell a lie?
It may be the case that some other-oriented lies lead to positive consequences. So, this would lead to the conclusion that it is morally acceptable to tell some lies, as long as the lie results in help, not harm. I knew an elderly woman whose family members lied to her about the fact that her son was dying of cancer.
