  2. There is no an exact solution to three-dimensional (3D) finite-size Ising model (referred to as the Ising model hereafter for simplicity) and even two-dimensional (2D) Ising model with non-zero external field to our knowledge.
In 1941, Kramers and Wannier located the critical point of the two-dimensional (2D) Ising model at finite temperature by employing the dual transformation [ 3 ]. About two and a half years later Onsager solved the exactly 2D Ising model using an algebraic approach [ 4] and calculated the thermodynamic properties.

What happened if Onsager solved the two-dimensional Ising model?Pauli in his reply said ”nothing much of interest has happened except for Onsager’s exact solution of the Two-Dimensional Ising Model” . The plan of the article is as follows:In sec.II we first define the Ising model and give an historical account of the various approximate solutions developed leading to the exact solution of Onsager .
What is a 3D Ising model? The exact solution of three-dimensional (3D) Ising model is a long-standing well-known problem in physics. Parallelly, critical phenomena at/near quantum phase transitions in quantum spin systems have also attracted great interest of physics community [ , , , , , ].
What is a two dimensional Ising model?sinh(2 J)i . In the thermodynamic limit the partition function simplifies even further. Only the larger is relevant. field. The two-dimensional Ising model is defined on a two dimensional lattice. The Hamiltonian neighbours. In the two-dimensional case each spin has four NN.
What is the Ising model? The model allows the identification of phase transitions as a simplified model of reality. The two-dimensional square-lattice Ising model is one of the simplest statistical models to show a phase transition. The Ising model was invented by the physicist Wilhelm Lenz ( 1920 ), who gave it as a problem to his student Ernst Ising.
