To calculate the amount of severance pay an employee is entitled to receive, multiply the employee's regular wages for a regular work week by the sum of: the number of completed years of employment; and the number of completed months of employment divided by 12 for a year that is not completed.

For hourly employees: # of years with company X 1 week of regular pay = Severance pay total. If you typically make $1,000 per week and have worked at your company for 10 years, your severance pay would be $10,000 (10 years X $1,000 = $10,000)

A typical severance package may calculate compensation based on the length of time you’ve been employed by the company. One method for this is to give one or two week’s pay for every year of service to the company. So if you’ve been employed for 5 years, for example, you could receive anywhere from 5 to 10 weeks of severance pay.
