    Mumps is a viral disease caused by the Paramyxovirus. It is a contagious disease that is it spreads from one person to another. It usually causes swelling of the parotid (salivary) glands. The symptoms occur 2-3 weeks after exposure to the virus. The symptoms are fever, headache, muscle pain, tiredness, and swelling of the face on one or both sides depending on which side of the gland is affected. Pain around the swelling. The treatment includes prevention of contact with the affected individuals and symptomatic treatment.
