Paradoxical breathing heavily is a sign of breathing problem. In this condition, chest will contract during inspiration and expand during inhalation, which is the opposite of it's normal physiological function. It can be normal in infants but in adults it is mostly due to an underlying pathology. It is usually associated with dizziness, weakness, difficulty catching breath, pain over the chest or abdomen, rapid hear rate, etc. It could be due to an injury to the chest, neurological problems, electrolyte abnormalities due to malnutrition, dehydration, etc, or sleep apnea, or any upper airway blockages.
