Heart disease is caused when there is inadequate blood supply to the heart by the coronary artery. While doing any physical activity our body and heart need an extra blood supply to meet the oxygen demands caused by strenuous activity. This leads to an inadequate blood supply to the heart leading to heart disease. Other causes are increased age, obesity, pre-existing heart problem, increased cholesterol levels, irregular heartbeats, blood clots in the artery, and plaque in the artery- which dislodges and blocks the coronary artery supply to the cardiac muscle. Other causes of heart disease are smoking, high cholesterol diet, diabetes mellitus, alcohol consumption, bleeding disorders, thrombosis, and congenital cardiac malformations.
