It can cause symptoms such as:

• Pain, tenderness and swelling in one area of the eyelid
• Redness of the eyelid or the eye
• Crusting on the eyelashes, eye or eyelid
• Discharge from the eye, which may be yellowish or white
• Tearing or watery eyes
• Feeling like there is something in the eye or a scratchy sensation
• Sensitivity to light
• Blurred vision, if the stye is large enough to press on the eye

To treat a stye inside the eyelid, you can apply a warm compress to your closed eyelid for 10 minutes, six times a day, and gently massage the eyelid to help the stye drain. Do not squeeze or pop the stye, as this can spread the infection and damage your eye. If the stye does not improve after 48 hours, see your doctor. You may need antibiotic eye drops or ointment, or a minor surgery to drain the stye. ^{1 7 8}
