One of my top used apps since moving to find new places and restaurants, and essential for driving or traveling to new places, but recently the ability to control music has been greatly reduced. You used to be able to tap the music or audio player below the map view and be able to go back, pause/play, or skip to the next song. Two things: First, you need to have a pause button on Google Maps so that when somebody wants to go to the restroom, Miss Yip Yap isn’t busy telling them to go north, south, east, and west within 30 seconds trying to get them back on the track. Second, for heaven sake‘s, quit rerouting me without my permission. The selection needs to be “tap to accept,” not “accept unless I tell you no thanks.” At least 10 times in the last 10,000 miles, I have had to backtrack 20 or 30 miles to get to where I wanted to go instead of where you decided I should go. I’m hearing impaired; I don’t always hear Miss Yip Yap asking if I want to reroute, and I shouldn’t have to constantly go back and tell you that I want to go on the route I selected, and not the one you think I should use. If you don’t want to change the way the switches work, put in a selection in the settings that says “tap to accept” or “tap to decline.” I am beyond frustrated with having to hunt down on a map where I really want to be and how to get there, because invariably when I figure out Miss Yip Yap has rerouted me, I am in an area of no phone service, so I can’t reroute on Google Maps, because it says, “Off-line: touch to retry.”

The worst thing is getting to your saved places, I should be able to click on destination where you type, and have a drop down menu that opens saved places, instead I have to navigate the main menu. Then if you want to save a place you can't figure out how, because there's no simple button for it like there should be. I recommend transit app over this

Apple Maps is my preferred map app and I use it daily to understand best route to take with traffic etc. Recently, I have missed many exits when using the interstate because you changed the notifications for next direction. I wish you would show the exit number or street name/sign in the larger notification prompt (top left-hand corner of screen) instead of only counting down how close the driver is the next direction (turn/exit/etc). This is especially problematic when there are multiple options near each other (on an interstate system). I want to quickly see an exit # where I’m supposed to go vs trying to decipher which of many roads I’m supposed to follow by looking at the highlighted road. By then I’m missing it and avoiding an accident by going sometimes far out of my way because I couldn’t decipher my next move quickly enough. You used to show “Exit # in 1.3 miles,” (for example). That was more helpful than just how far you are from the exit. I also agree with other reviews that sometimes I will pick the route I want to take, and it takes me on whatever route it wants - not the route I selected. I also would like to see you add final destination arrival time somewhere without having to back out of the navigation for multiple-stop routes.

I can use my fingers to pinch and move the map around in circles, side ways etc like Apple Maps that’s in my iPhone. Google maps is difficult to do any of those finger gestures which is a pain when you are driving in the moment. Plus Apple Maps is a pain because it automatically switches routes on you as you drive further into your 1st route that you picked and it’s stressful! When I’m driving I know that I picked route #1 option and refused route 2 or 3 for reasons but Apple Maps will automatically switch the route even when you are trying to exit off or onto a freeway or major intersection which is dangerous!!! It never used to be like that. I can’t stand google maps on my iPhone. Google maps does better on a laptop for research if you’re looking into greater details for research of cities, driving distance, businesses in the area or trying to google drive in their map system to see what an area looks like virtually to plan your move or road trip in general. All in all, gonna try to use Mapquest in my car while driving more often than Apple Maps.
