Should I use rafts If I don't use a raft?If you are not using a raft, and are experiencing poor adhesion or print quality when using no base layer, consider turning Rafts on for better results. If you are already using a raft and are interested in using a lighter base-layer or prefer to not use a raft, you can use a different base layer called Brims and Padded Base.
Are rafts better than brims?Rafts go all the way under the print and consist of multiple layers, whereas a brim is only 1 layer and on the outside of the print. Rafts are normally harder to remove than brims because of the increased contact with the print. From my own experiences, the brim does not help a lot with layer adhesion as it is only 1 layer.
What are the raft layers & raft base layers? An explanation of the important settings are given below: Raft Top Layers – The number of interface layers that are printed at the top of the raft. Your model will be printed on top of these layers, so you usually want at least 2-3 layers to ensure a smooth surface. Raft Base Layers – The number of extra-thick layers at the very bottom of the raft.
Why is the bottom surface finish smoother than a raft? The bottom surface finish is smoother because the brim will only be in contact with the outer edges of the printed object. This printing technique uses less material when compared to using a raft. This is a good technique to use when printing with ABS and similar materials because it reduces warping issues.
