  2. Playa Lucia
    • According to 3 sources
“Dead Dog Beach” is the colloquial term for Playa Lucia, an area on the southeastern coast of Puerto Rico once popular for beachgoers. It earned its name because it’s the place where dogs go to die. Dozens of dogs are regularly dumped there each year. There is no fresh water and food is scarce.
In Puerto Rico, they are called satos — unwanted, often abused mongrel dogs that have been dumped on a beach in the southeast corner of the island, called Playa Lucia. Hundreds have roamed the sand in unruly, starving packs for so long that the locals have given the area another name: Dead Dog Beach.
The real name of “Dead Dog Beach” is Playa Lucia. It was once a popular spot for beach-goers, with a pool and cabana facilities. But the pool is now filled in, and the building lies in disrepair; it’s covered in graffiti and mounds of trash abound. Sun-worshipers are now sparse, having long since been replaced by satos.
