    With a $35 loan, WS “Sylvester” Stuckey, Sr. founded Stuckey’s as a roadside pecan stand in Eastman, Georgia in 1937. Ethel Stuckey started making and selling old-fashioned candy, including our Stuckey’s pecan log roll. In 1948, Stuckey’s moved from the small candy kitchen to a candy plant in Eastman. It also served as our distribution center.
    In its heyday in the 1960s, Stuckey’s had 368 outlets in 30 states, offering gifts and souvenirs, restaurant services and Texaco gasoline. But it all started with a single roadside stand that W.S. “Sylvester” Stuckey set up in Eastman, Georgia, 1937 to sell the pecans, honey and souvenirs he bought from local farmers and producers.
    In 1936, he set up a stand on the well-traveled US 23, Dixie highway in Georgia. Travelers bought the shelled and unshelled pecans. His wife Ethel made delicious candies in her kitchen and added the goodies to his little stand by the road. In 1937, Stuckey opened his first real store in Eastman, Georgia, to sell foodstuffs.
